Jubilee Street Party made £480 for village funds

The highly successful village street party on 3rd June made a profit of £481 after all expenses. This surplus will be used for some kind of memorial to the event, plus a time capsule for future generations.

The Blog has sponsored the video of the event, which is currently being edited and we hear is nearly complete. This will go into the time capsule, but copies will be on sale in aid of the Parish Church Roof fund.

Look out for announcements of the World Premierie, to be screened on the Half Moon’s big telly, soon.

Horsington Bells ring in the Jubilee

BloggoVision The Bellringers of Horsington Parish Church got the Jubilee off to a flying start with a peal at noon on Sunday 3 June – the day of the Horsington street party and the Thames pageant.

The video of the Horsington event is now well in hand . The editing process is complicated and difficult decisions have to be made. Unfortunately the bellringers have ended up on the cutting room floor in the Street Party video, but their consolation prize is a feature film of their own on BloggoVision.

Enjoy the delicate (but physical) art of change ringing.

Horsington Celebrates the Jubilee in Style

BloggoVision Over 300 people sat down to a delicious lunch at the Horsington Street Party of Sunday June 3rd.  Everyone had a fabulous day, and the Blog sends a big thank you to everyone concerned – Andrew and Philippa Tarling and everyone at the Half Moon; Chris and the Bailward family who provided and roasted  delicious pork and beef, Alec and Rachael Davis who spent several hours carving it; all the ladies who made all those delicious salads, puddings and cakes. Plus all the other helpers who turned up to erect and dismantle the marquees, John Sampson and his team and many others. Thanks.

A full length video will show the days events. The video is for the “Time Capsule”, but you will be able to buy a copy in aid of the Church roof fund.

In the meantime, here is a preview.  httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0aOKz-qrys&feature=youtube_gdata

Jubilee Weather will not be a problem

Not if you’re attending the Jubilee street party in Horsington, at any rate.

With masterful foresight, the organisers have ensured that the event can be held in the marquees, which will be erected on Saturday evening.

Please turn up to help. 6.pm.

Oil deal may not be all it seems

We have picked up a buzz about something called the Community Council for Somerset, which is offering a community oil buying scheme. For a subscription of £20 per year, you get access to great prices for oil.

According to their website, the price for domestic heating oil at the end of May 2012 was 56p per litre, a claimed saving of 5.5pence per litre.

However, a quick survey of Boiler Juice and Ford reveals virtually identical prices for immediate delivery, so there isn’t much of a saving – and you have to pay £20 for the privilege.

We advise readers to be very careful, and always check with local suppliers before signing up to these collective purchasing schemes.

Horsington gears up for a great Jubilee weekend

The coming Jubilee weekend of 1st -5th June will be a corker, even if the stunning weather of the past week becomes a distant memory.

The village is looking great, thanks to a number of volunteers who have mown,  weeded, chopped and painted, and there a great programme of events, with a beer festival, a village street party, a Jubilee bell peal, music, and a  cricket match against our regular London visitors.

The blog wishes to thank everyone who has lent a hand to make the weekend a success. Without community-minded citizens we would have a miserable, grey time. So let’s enjoy ourselves, as we celebrate 60 years of HM the Q.

Below  is a run down of the events. Please come and join it. It’s your village(s).

Beer festival – from Friday 1st June, Half Moon

Half MoonThis event will start on Friday evening with a tasting preview in the skittle alley of the  Half Moon at 8pm. This is your chance to sample a small glass of each beer, comment on its attributes and vote for the best.

The event proper will start at 2 pm on Saturday, and continue for as long as the beer lasts. Andrew Tarling has collected a wonderful selection of specially brewed “Jubilee ales” from local brewers. Should be great fun. Don’t bring your car.

The cost is a recession-busting £3.00 per pint. Or a deeply discounted £10.00 for 4 pints. Or a staggering £15.00 for a day pass, where you can drink as much as you like. Fabulous.

If delicious real ale is not your thing, the Half Moon Bar will be open for the whole weekend,(including Monday)  for the usual fayre of food and drink.

Volunteers Wanted – 6 pm Saturday.

Duck lane, from outside the pub to the junction with Lower Road will be closed from Saturday night at 6pm. At that time a squad of stalwart helpers will unload tables and chairs, erect tents and prepare the area for the great feast on Sunday.

Please come along for an hour or two and help if you can. Without you, there is no street party. Just turn up with some gardening gloves. Thanks.

Jubilee Street Party – Sunday 3rd June

Horsington Village Jubilee Street Party
Everyone is welcome at the Horsington Village Jubilee party

Nearly 300 tickets have been sold for the Horsington and South Cheriton Jubilee Street Party, which promises to be a great event. It’s not too late to book if you want to come, but the organisers need to know by Friday at 6pm in order to ensure there is enough to eat and drink. If you need tickets, email halfmoon@horsington.co.uk, or telephone the pub – 01963 370140.

The road will be closed, but there will be disabled access  only to the pub car park. The best advice is to walk.

The event kicks off at 12 noon with a Jubilee peal of bells from the parish church.

Please try to be seated as early as possible so that the event can run smoothly.

There will be a beef and hog roast. You are welcome to bring you own wine, although a drink from the pub is included in the price, and the bar is open all afternoon.

The legendary band “The Rattlin Boys” will be playing some old rock n’ roll favourites, backed up by Bragatanga, who feature regularly at the Half Moon.
