Stunning victory for TBAS in the Half Moon Quiz

Six teams competed in the annual Half Moon end of the year quiz on Sunday 29 December. In a hotly contested battle,  The Ted Banks Appreciation Society (TBAS) held on to the narrow one point lead they established in the first round and managed to finish just ahead of the favourites, the Moonies.

The winning team were unanimous in congratulating question master Andrew Tarling on a superb choice of high quality, relevant and interesting questions.

Half Moon gears up for a tradional Christmas welcome

Half MoonWhen it comes to Christmas cheer, there’s no place like the Half Moon in Horsington. This year Andrew & Philippa have gone to great lengths to ensure some fun for everyone.

On Christmas Eve, there is the traditional Christmas sing-song with plenty of carols and other favourites, helped by whatever you fancy, and delicious mince pies. Bring the entire family. From 8pm

On Christmas day the bar is open for the  lunch time session  only. Your chance to escape from the chaos at home and wish your friends and neighbours a happy Christmas over a quick pint.

half boxingday13On Boxing Day there will be brunch from 10 am – a chance to set yourself up for the races or just relax with your friends and families away from the chores at home.

On Sunday 29th December there will be a fashion show – of sorts. The models are YOU, and the apparel is that beautiful, fashionable, OTT or naff Christmas jumper which Santa gave you – not necessarily this year.

In the evening the traditional end of the year quiz starts at 8 pm. Usual format – teams of 4-ish. All welcome. Don’t bring your phone.

Andrew and Philippa wish everyone a very happy Christmas, and look forward to welcoming old friends and new at the Half Moon.

Christmas Carols at the Half Moon

Half MoonHorsington has 2 Carol  sessions on Christmas Eve. The first, at the church at 6.30, is the traditional candlelit service of lessons and carols.

The second, at the Half Moon, is the Christmas singalong, including many carols, plenty of good ale and the odd mince pie or two. proceedings general start around 8pm.

Both are a family affair, and children of all ages are welcome.

New website for Somerset culture vultures

FTRWe moaned about the sudden absence of quality arts coverage in the Blackmore Vale recently. Now, riding to the rescue is a new website covering arts, entertainment and food events in Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. FTR -The Fine Times Recorder–  is the brainchild of Gay Pirie-Weir, (who used to write for the Blackmore Vale) and some other notables, including Mark Blackham, David Grierson and Kerry Bartlett, who are all active in the arts.

FTR is updated every Friday with news on what’s on, listings, reviews , ideas for eating out, travel, and books. It has a fabulous array of goodies on offer, and no-one should be stuck for an ideas of what to do at the weekend, or any other day of the week.

We have added FTR to our “Blogroll”, so there will always be a permanent link to the site  in the right hand column of the Blog. We wish the enterprise well.
