There was hardly a centimetre to spare in Horsington Church this afternoon for a very moving memorial service for Jane Jones, who died on the 7th December.
The Blog will publish a longer tribute to the much loved and respected Jane soon. If you have any anecdotes or remembrances to contribute, please email the editor at editor@idnet.com.
The White Horse at South Cheriton has been serving a delicious Christmas dinning during December, and there are still ten days left to enjoy it. The cost is £22 per person, but you have to pre-order. 01963 370 394. or jameskingcole@hotmail.co.uk
If you’re stuck for a last minute Christmas present for the person who has everything, then why not give a Half Moon Double Up voucher?
Buy a voucher for £12.50 in December, and enjoy £25 worth of food and drink in January. It’s a simple as that! The voucher must be used for a meal, with or without a drink. NOT valid Sundays or Mondays.
On Christmas Eve it’s carols and mince pies at the Half Moon from around 8pm. The Horsington Chamber Orchestra has been practicing madly. We hear there are some new ones this year. And the Horsington Symphony Orchestra will be making its debut. All Welcome.
On Christmas day the pub is open during the lunchtime session from 12 noon until 2 pm. Come and spill something down that new jumper from marks and sparks.
On Sunday 27 December the Half Moon has its Quiz of the Year with a special mystery guest Quizmaster. Teams of 4 or more, usual rules. 8pm.
Andrew, Philippa and family look forward to welcoming everyone over the Christmas season.

We have received three personalised requests via email to take part in a survey on local health services by an agency working for the NHS.
The Blog uses surveys and we value the results. So we have done the survey only once and claimed the Amazon voucher (yet to arrive). But there would be nothing to stop me doing this 3 times (or more if the invitations keep coming in), collecting the vouchers and completely skewing the results.
More worryingly still, there is nothing to stop people inside the NHS submitting multiple questionnaires and also skewing the results.
Without proper controls and sampling the results of these surveys are worthless and we should treat them with due suspicion when they are published.
What a waste. No wonder the NHS has no money.
We will publish the results of our broadband survey shortly If you have not completed it you can do it here.
Wincanton Races have a meeting on Thursday 19 November. Winterborne Longjohns has kindly sent us this dispatch:
MICK JAZZ was a grievous disappointment to favourite followers at Cheltenham last weekend. As Pelham Grenville* might well have put it “The stable is far from sanguine” at the moment . However at Wincanton tomorrow the Harry Fry yard has four runners and on paper at least might well be expected to enjoy at least two winners.
SHUIL ROYALE , a possible Grand National contender in the 1.50 pm and then little more than an hour later, the very useful last time out winner BLUE BUTTONS who must have an outstanding chance of making it two from two winners in the four runner field at 3.00pm.
Meanwhile anything trained by Kim Bailey whose happy horses are jumping out of their skins at the moment should be supported at Huntingdon on Friday.
The Horsington Blog has negotiated free delivery of fabulous farm-reared Christmas turkeys and other meats from Harry Street Meats, a small family-run business in Dorset.
They rear beef, lamb, turkeys and veal – all naturally grown, – on Bradford Farm in the heart of East Dorset, less than 30 miles from Horsington. They have Holstein Friesian calves, Angus beef cattle and Herefords, a flock of Suffolk Texel Cross sheep, and of course, Bronze turkeys.
All animals are reared on Bradford Farm so they control exactly where they come from and how they’ve been produced – allowing you to buy with confidence. The farm is RSPCA and Red Tractor assured, so they can guarantee that the way their animals are reared, transported and slaughtered is in line with welfare standards.
To qualify for free delivery you must mention the “Horsington Blog” AND live in the Horsington area, which includes the Cheritons. Free delivery is normally only available within a 20 mile radius of the farm. (So Templecombe, Henstridge and Stalbridge are covered)
We had one of their turkeys and other meats last year. We have also visited the farm. Excellent, highly reccommended -Ed
It looks as if everyone is looking for Parish Clerks. Now North Vale Parish, which includes Holton and North Cheriton has entered the fray with a recruitment ad for a clerk. An enterprising applicant might apply for both jobs, as the 2 councils meet on different evenings. Telephone Mr P Bourne on 01963 34282.
