Me and My Girl – The “Blackmore Vale” speaks

Your editor has not yet had the fortune to visit Shaftesbury Arts Centre to review “Me and my Girl”, so we must rely on the drama critic of the “Blackmore Vale  Magazine” for a verdict on the show. Here are a few choice quotes from this week’s review, in case you haven’t seen them.

“a huge amount of musical talent at Shaftesbury …”

Sophie Lester (director) . . .  has found and unleashed an energy, enthusiasm  and joy in her cast that also infects the audience.

“…some brilliant directoral ideas…”

“Many Shaftesbury Arts Centre stalwarts give the performance of their lives…”

You get the picture.

Me and My Girl in Shaftesbury – another hit for talented group?

The hit musical “Me and My Girl” is the summer show at Shaftesbury Arts  Centre. This well-loved musical has enjoyed long runs in London and Broadway, and has won numerous awards.

It tells the story of cheeky Cockney Bill Snibson who unexpectedly finds himself heir to a large estate. But there are strings attached: he has to marry a fit and proper young lady and not his Cockney girlfriend if he is to inherit!

Me and My Girl contains a host of hilarious characters, witty one-liners, great dance routines and music which will have you singing all the way home! Show-stopping numbers include Doing the Lambeth Walk, The Sun Has Got His Hat On, Leaning On a Lampost and, of course, Me and My Girl.

The Shaftesbury production features Horsington’s very own Chris Bailward.

Horsington gears up for a great Jubilee weekend

The coming Jubilee weekend of 1st -5th June will be a corker, even if the stunning weather of the past week becomes a distant memory.

The village is looking great, thanks to a number of volunteers who have mown,  weeded, chopped and painted, and there a great programme of events, with a beer festival, a village street party, a Jubilee bell peal, music, and a  cricket match against our regular London visitors.

The blog wishes to thank everyone who has lent a hand to make the weekend a success. Without community-minded citizens we would have a miserable, grey time. So let’s enjoy ourselves, as we celebrate 60 years of HM the Q.

Below  is a run down of the events. Please come and join it. It’s your village(s).
