District Council backs pond scheme – but residents will need to contribute too

Horsington Pond in happier times
Horsington Pond has potential, but this is going too far!

Horsington parish councilors Ian Snowdon and Charles James attended the Area East meeting of South Somerset District Council on Wednesday 8th June, to put the case for partial funding for the Horsington pond project through a community development grant.

The project team has been given good advice, support and encouragement from Tim Cook, the community development officer,  from the very beginning. With his presentation plus Ian and Charles, and with the  support from  ward councillors Tim Inglefield and William Wallace,  the parish council has been awarded £5,000 towards the cost of the project. The vote in favour was unanimous.

This will cover around 40% of the total costs so there is still a long way to go but we are on the way to achieving the funding for this village-enhancing project.

Charles James said “I am very excited and pleased that we are at this stage. We (the parish council) will be standing at the village fete on Saturday so please do come along and see the details and encourage or criticise (as I am sure some will) as you see fit!”

The question now is how to raise the extra £7 thousand or so?

Have a think and tell the councillors at the Fete on Saturday – or tell the Blog editor@idnet.com

The village fete is on Saturday 11th June. No-one involved has told the Blog anything about it, so we’re not able to tell you much. -Ed

  1. To start with, they should have a collection cash box at the fete on Saturday! To quote Tesco: every little helps?

  2. We shall be there and we will be happy to accept donations however large or small for the village pond or defibrillator, at least three of the Defibrillator responders team will also be on the PC stand so if you wish to donate to that cause also you are more then welcome to, if you prefer to do so by cheque please make it out to H.A.D.A for the defib or Horsington Parish Council for the pond fund.
    Hope to see you there
