Pawfest announces line up for June 9 concert at Wincanton

After such wonderful feedback was received from the first ever ‘PawFest’ Music Festival held in September of last year, Somerset & Dorset Animal Rescue are doing it again!

PawFest 2012 will take place on Saturday 9th June 2012 in the superb surroundings of Somerset and Dorset Animal Rescue, Common Road, Wincanton.

The day features a very diverse line up headlined by Toploader, who have enjoyed a string of top 20 hits. Other bands include Babyhead, Tenshed, Twin Falls, The Rock Doctors, Stop Go Sixty, Jack Grace, Buzz and Abbi Baker

There is a fully stocked bar which features scrummy ‘Black Rat Cider’, a gorgeous Honeybuns Tea Tent, Chill out area and delicious hot and cold food.

New for 2012 is the Kids Activity tent, where the children will be able to keep busy with a little art and craft after having their face painted or hair braided.

Last year PawFest was quoted as ‘the best thing that has ever happened in Wincanton’. Come and see what all the fuss is about and if you have never been to a Music Festival make this your first.

It is relaxed, safe, family friendly and most importantly,  held in aid of Somerset and Dorset Animal Rescue.  Doors open Noon -11pm.

Tickets are on sale now at £16 under 12’s free (but still require a ticket) on sale at  www.pawfest.co.uk, or from Totally Floored, Wincanton, Unicorn Inn, Bayford, The Ship in, West Stour, and other outlets

Jubilee goings on -2-5th June

As previously reported, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend looks like being a corker, with a beer festival, a super cricket match and . . . . a street party.

Andrew Tarling and Chris Bailward are proposing to organise the party.
They write” We think the Queen’s Jubilee would be a great opportunity for Horsington and South Cheriton to get together for what most of us will be a once in a lifetime occasion. To this end, we propose holding a street party in Horsington on Sunday 3rd June.

The event will include a beef and hog roast and a barbeque, live music and entertainment. We intend to sell tickets to cover the cost, with priority given to village residents of Horsington and South Cheriton.

Any net proceeds would then go forward to fund some sort of monument to celebrate the Jubilee and everyone’s participation, and a time capsule to be placed somewhere in the parish.

Obviously any help and support in organizing this event, either physical or financial, would be most welcome. If anyone has any ideas or offers please contact Chris Bailward at Home farm, or Andrew Tarling at the Half Moon –halfmoon@horsington.co.uk .

An excellent initiative. The Blog supports it 100 percent and we hope everyone else will too. Please offer your talents and services –Ed.

Gartell Light Railway model train Exhibition – 11-12 February

Gartell Light Railway, Yenston
Renewing the miniature track on the Gartell light railway

The Gartell Light Railway at Yenston, the area’s secret “Jewel in the Crown” is hosting its annual model railway exhibition on the weekend of 11 and 12 February.

Over 10 layouts are expected, and there will be trade stands and memorabilia on sale.

The GLR’s half size steam and diesel engines will be running their first service of 2012, following a winter of renewals and maintenance.

The exhibition ruins from 10-5 on Saturday, 10 -4 on Sunday. Admission £4 (Not including GLR Train rides). A great day out for children of all ages, including those with senior bus passes.

Bridge club gets off to a flying start

The Half Moon on Tuesdays is unusually quiet, as 20-odd dedicated players settle down to a game of Bridge. There are all comers, from raw beginners, through social “kitchen bridge” players,  to gimlet-eyed, stern-faced professionals.

The evening is very relaxed, and newcomers to the game are put at their ease and helped by the roving “dummy” players. You are allowed to make mistakes – at least on some tables.

The proceedings are helped by the Half Moon’s “Two for a Tenner” curry night, which allows a welcome break.

There’s room for more, of any standard. Look at the TV schedules – it’s a no-brainer.

Just turn up – although it would be helpful to the organizer Phil Bennet if you could let him know you are coming, as he needs to assign partners and tables.  01963 370273

Proceedings start at 6.30
