Polly Brisol has penned another marvellous Christmas poem, with apologies to Rudyard Kipling, who, as we all know, had nothing to do with cakes. She says she wrote it at 2 in the morning “following a rush of blood to the head”. Lucky lady!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Polly Bristol (nee Erskine) was born in Cheriton House, and still owns a field. She no longer lives in the village, but is a regular Blog reader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And hold the Party on a steady course,
If you can stop the rot of cultural warfare,
And guide the Country without use of force,
If you can face the unions and the strikers,
And not give way to all in great despair,
The same with Motorists and Bikers,
The roads are there for everyone to share.
If you can find an answer to the \u2018 Northern Ireland Protocol \u2018,
Or, illegal immigration in the Channel,
If you can talk to Biden and to Macron,
Without the need for diplomatic flannel,
If you can hold your own with Xi and Putin,
And treat both monsters just the same,
Remember that the World is dangerous,
But democracy must keep alive the flame.
If you can get us through this Winter,
Of power cuts and rising interest rates,
A National Health\u00a0 \u2018 not fit for purpose \u2018
Albanians banging on our gates,
Then Spring will come again with promise,
And Hope once more begins to trend,
And you, for all the struggles \u2026
