Some 33 companies across Somerset competed in this hotly-contested annual competition, organised by the Somerset Fellowship of Drama.<\/p>\n<p>www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JbeThQhE7ew<\/p>\n<p>Milborne Port Opera\u2019s nominations and wins were:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Sound<\/strong>\u00a0 (Musical director Caroline d\u2019Cruz) \u2013 <strong>WON!<br \/>\n<\/strong>This is a remarkable win. MPO does not use any amplification at all. The award was for \u201ca pure, beautifully balanced sound\u201d.<br \/>\n<strong>Best Set Design<\/strong> (Naomi Booth and Trevor John)<br \/>\n<strong>Best Actor<\/strong> (Mark Blackham as John Wellington Wells in \u201cThe Sorcerer\u201d)<br \/>\n<strong>The \u201cShow Stopper\u201d<\/strong> award for the best musical number (entire company)<br \/>\n<strong>WON!<br \/>\nBest Small Venue<\/strong> (Milborne Port village hall) <strong>WON!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The awards were all for MPO\u2019s last production \u201cThe Sorcerer\u201d by Gilbert &amp; Sullivan, directed by Linda Mumford, which played to packed houses in April last year.<\/p>\n<p>MPO has form in this area. It plays in the Milborne Port Village hall from April 19-22.
