There\u2019s nothing more delightful <\/strong>than picking your own fruit and veg on a summers evening and sitting down to a healthy meal twaddling with vitamins and goodness, straight from Mother Earth, with a little help from the April showers, May\u2019s dazzling sunlight, high summer\u2019s heat -plus careful weeding and hoeing by yours truly. Savoy cabbage, Cos lettuce, King Edward potatoes, cauliflower, beetroot, carrots, peas, parsnips, turnips, broccoli -the list is endless (You bet it is \u2013Ed)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

When it comes to growing vegetables successfully, it\u2019s all down to what I call my \u201cthree peas\u201d \u2013 Preparation, Preparation and Preparation.<\/p>\n

These frosty days in early March are ideal for preparing your vegetable patch and getting it into prime condition to receive bounteous\u00a0 nature\u2019s fertile seeds (I\u2019ve warned you- Ed)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0This week I\u2019m trying out my new TinyTurbo\u00a0 Bonka Stompa\u00ae rotavational tool which I got on e-Bay for only \u00a339.00 +p+p. This little miracle of Asian (N Korea, I think) engineering has all the bells and whistles you\u2019 expect, and I\u2019ve made few modifications to improve its performance way into the next price bracket and beyond.<\/p>\n

\u00a0I\u2019ve bolted on the twin turbo booster thrusters from my old Trubshawe Troubabour Groundmaster\u00ae, and retro-fitted a carburetor pre-warmer and supercharger which I adapted from an old Primus stove.<\/p>\n

Just top up the pre-warmer with meths, adjust the choke, light it, wait five, pull the handle and\u2026the beast roars into life. My, it\u2019s quite a noise.<\/p>\n

Slip the clutch, and we\u2019re off. The triple action \u201cBonkas\u201d are whirling around, and getting down to really rip the ground apart, scattering stones and debris, and cutting a satisfying trench.<\/p>\n

I must say it\u2019s a bit fast, and I\u2019m having to walk very quickly to keep up with it. May have overdone the twin turbos a bit. The revs are still building and it\u2019s going even\u00a0 faster, with the\u201d Bonkas\u201d going berserk, and it\u2019s going to be quite tricky to turn it round at the end of the garden.<\/p>\n

Well there\u2019s performance for you! Straight through the back hedge and onto my neighbour\u2019s lawn. He\u2019ll get a free makeover and no mistake.\u00a0 I\u2019m now having to run quite hard, and we\u2019re out of my neighbour\u2019s front gate and into the lane, with the tarmacadam flying off in all directions.<\/p>\n
